We consider Swanson Ultra CoQ10 to be a good quality CoQ10 product than many other supplements available because the company offers CoQ10 in a highly effective dosage which is great news when looking for good results. However, as in our #2 choice, they have failed to add piperine which is definitely a disappointment. The upshot is that consumers may need to supplement this with an additional ingredient to get fast, effective results.
In addition, they do not serve their formula in a vegetarian capsule, which is bad news for vegans and vegetarians alike. Given the supplement industry's general trend toward animal friendly products, we were surprised that this manufacturer has not followed popular consumer demands of being vegan-friendly and provides a vegan friendly option.
That said, this product is still relatively decent quality, and the company has a good name in the industry so we wanted to give you the complete rundown.
Is Swanson Ultra CoQ10 Effective?
When a product claims to be made of 100% pure ingredients, by all means it should be effective. Let us stress, should be. One issue that raises a slight red flag here is that Swanson Ultra CoQ10 contains several questionable ingredients that fall under the category of inactive, which we felt may reduce the effectiveness of the product. These include gelatin, rice bran oil, glycerin, purified water, annatto, yellow beeswax, palm oil, d-alpha tocopherol, plant squalene, sterol complex, mixed natural carotenoids. It is very hard for us to say how much of an effect these added ingredients would have on the product’s actual overall effectiveness or indeed what side effects they may present.
So, we went looking to see what consumers had to say, and it seems that quite a few users experienced little to no effect on this formulation.
Swanson Ultra CoQ10 might have a little better luck with effectiveness if they avoided including all of the additional ‘inactive’ ingredients as well as including piperine in their formula. They were almost there with a quality product, but not quite.
Is Swanson Ultra CoQ10 Safe?
We did not find any ingredients in this product that would cause it to be unsafe, such as un-certified stimulant ingredients or other herbs. As for the ingredients in general, when in their pure form, they are deemed to be a safe herbal supplement if taken according to proper recommendations. There are no reported side effects and they can be taken with most medications.
Our main concern is that this product contains inactive unnecessary ingredients which we are not sure what part they play in the effectiveness of this product.
Summary
Swanson Ultra CoQ10 had the right idea in making sure their formula contains 250 mg of CoQ10. However, the inclusion of additional inactive ingredients in their product and the fact it doesn’t contain piperine may decrease its effectiveness and certainly its appeal. Given that they do not offer a veggie based capsule also limits its appeal to consumers who are looking for animal friendly products. The price was pretty competitive compared to others on the market, but it wasn't the most cost effective option that we have seen, especially given that it doesn't have a great guarantee. Our final say is that these capsules would need to get rid of the unnecessary ingredients plus add piperine to their formula to get a higher grade.
