Maju Superfoods Black Seed Oil Review

Maju Superfoods is a small business, co-founded in 2014 by two friends who were looking for ways to stay healthy and avoid burnout from studying and working hard. Their goal is to make it easier for people to build healthy habits and add "healthy addictions" to their lives with pure, good quality herbs, oils and superfoods. They offer a small range of natural supplements that are sourced from around the world and then made in the USA.

You may be surprised to see what we chose as our second choice seeing as the daily serving is only a quarter of that of our first choice. Maju Superfoods offers a low quantity, 500mg daily serving in a liquid gelcap. In contrast, our #1 Top Pick offers a more effective, 2000mg serving. Also, those with allergies should be aware that the oil may be packaged in a facility that processes nuts. However, there are other factors to consider for this supplement that we found to be representative of a high quality product, and which boosted its credit. Maju offers a 60-day money-back guarantee, and its supplements are third-party tested in a cGMP compliant facility. In addition, we found many positive reviews online to justify the consideration of this product as our second choice.

Is Maju Superfoods Black Seed Oil Effective?

With only 500mg per daily serving, it’s difficult to discern whether this product is effective or not. It contains only a quarter of the amount of Black Seed Oil found in our #1 product, and far below what we consider to be an ideal amount. However, there were many things to like about this supplement that helped to propel it to the #2 spot, and encourages us to believe that it's an effective product overall. One of the main requirements for an effective Black Seed Oil is a high percentage of Thymoquinone, the active component which increases the health benefits. This product claims to have at least 1.5%, and possibly even 2% or more (depending on which part of their label or website you're looking at!). The company uses seeds that are grown and harvested from a reputable farm in Turkey, a region of origin considered to have high quality seeds. They use the recommended cold-press method of extraction, and the company highlights that no damaging heat is used at any point of the process. Not only that, this Black Seed Oil does not use GMOs and are 100% pesticide and herbicide free. This was all impressive and what led us to picking this product as our second choice.

However, it remains in the second position due to a number of reasons. Firstly, we cannot get over the minimalistic amount offered in a daily serving. 500mg is a huge reduction from the optimal dosage of 2000mg we found in our #1 pick. Although Maju's serving size is a very manageable one softgel, you would need to take four softgels to reach the 2000mg contained in our #1 product! In addition, Maju is inconsistent with their instructions - on their label it advises that 1 softgel is taken each day, but in their information section, they advise taking two gelcaps daily. This confusion also extends to the amount of Thymoquinone (TQ) contained in the product. They claim that their oil contains 3-4 times more TQ than other supplements, but then fail to state what that amount is in a consistent fashion. We always advocate for full transparency on labels, so with this in mind, we would have liked to see Maju stating the exact amount of TQ rather than vague expressions of "2% Thymoquinone Content Minimum", and "we have 1.5%+". And although Maju tells us that their oil contains an array of omega 3,6, & 9, why not tell us the exact quantity breakdown in the label ingredients? This information would have allowed us to judge the product's effectiveness more thoroughly.

Is Maju Superfoods Black Seed Oil Safe?

This product is considered a safe herbal supplement if it is taken according to the manufacturer's recommendations. It has no reported side effects and can be taken with most medications. That said, we suggest you always check with your healthcare professional to be absolutely sure.

Additionally, it is important to note that this oil may be packaged in a facility that processes nuts, which means that it is not suitable for those with nut allergies.

Summary

This product has a very good foundation and lots of positive reviews which is why we rated it so highly. But we’re not sure if Maju Superfoods Black Seed Oil is as effective as it could be, mainly due to the low quantity of the oil contained in each softgel. In addition, the full nutritional value of the oil is not completely transparent (and at best, slightly confusing) - this doesn't inspire full confidence. We were pleased that Maju offers a full money-back guarantee; however, it is only for 60 days. This is better than some, and certainly a gesture we appreciate, but it does not compare to a full year guarantee we have found on other products. If we found a longer time period for their satisfaction guarantee, a higher daily serving of Black Seed Oil, and clearer and more consistent labeling and nutritional information, this may have been a serious contender for our top spot. Without these, we had no choice other than to place Maju Superfoods in our second spot.
