Scars FAQ

Q: What are acne scars and what can be done to remove them?

Acne, or acne vulgaris, is a long term skin disease that occurs when oil and/or dead skin cells clog up your pores. Commonly exeperiences symtpoms iclude blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, greasy skin and may leave behind scarring.

Scarring tends to be genetically linked to an individual’s unique inflammation response. Those people with a “secondary inflammatory response” to trauma tend to scar, while those with a “single inflammatory response” to trauma tend not to scar. This explains why some people will scar easily and others maintain a smooth complexion even through moderately severe battles with acne.

An acne scar is a mark or blemish resulting from an open skin injury that after healing, may leave a visible disfigurement. Scars are a natural part of the body’s healing process and the visibility of scars depend upon a few different factors; nature of the injury, healing time, age and race.

Scars are the result of the body depositing a fibrous tissue called collagen, in order to repair the broken skin. However, it is ‘laid’ down in a different pattern and is not the same as the original tissue; therefore it presents with a different appearance than the original skin. If the healing is delayed, more collagen is deposited in the wound and the appearance of the scar becomes worse.

Scars can be unsightly, embarrassing and sometimes painful. There are surgical procedures that can remove scars however, they are painful, time consuming and can be very expensive. Subsequently, many people are turning to alternative remedies for acne scar removal. There are many healthy alternatives for treating acne scars that are safe, effective and low in cost.

Q: Do all acne scar treatments work?

Unfortunately, no. Many fly-by-night companies just ride trends, manufacturing inferior products with the wrong ingredients and proportions. They often use cheap additives, preservatives and synthetic ingredients that can block the desired effects of other active ingredients and fail to provide effective healing.

Q: What should I look for?

  • It must contain clinically proven ingredients to provide a dual action repair & rejuvenate formula for internal/external healing of the skin to quickly soothe and heal acne scars.
  • It must contain 100% pure clinically proven ingredients such as onion bulb extract, aloe vera and the oils from safflower, sunflower and jojoba.
  • It must have no additives, preservatives or any other artificial ingredients.
  • It must contain medical grade silicone to promote internal acne scar healing and soothing.

Q: What about safety? Are there side effects to watch out for?

From our research, a quality formula should not cause any interference with other medications or conditions. However, we still recommend consulting with a physician if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or take medications on a regular basis.

Q: How do I use an acne scar treatment?

You should apply the treatment to the affected areas as per the manufacturer’s instructions. We recommend using a product every day, in the morning and the evening to optimum effectiveness. A treatment should provide both internal and external healing qualities.

Q: How long will it take to see the effects?

Some customers we spoke to reported seeing results in as little as one week. For others, it took longer. Results also seem to be a bit different for each person. Some show unbelievable change right away, while others take a little longer. Many of the reputable brands we reviewed offer refunds to customers who don’t see the results they want in any time frame.

Q: How much do acne scar treatments cost?

The cost of acne scar treatments varies based on the manufacturer. Many of them are worthless, just random companies with cheap quality products trying to cash in on the trend. Some of these companies sell their treatments for as much as $100 per bottle, which we think is a bit too high. Most of the really good products we tested fell in the $40-$50 range. Others may appear cheaper, but they often use synthetic ingredients that are not as effective as the ones found in a premium formula.
