Rodan + Fields REVERSE Skin Lightening Treatment Review

Rodan + Fields is a skincare line created by two Stanford educated dermatologists who wanted to formulate safe and effective products.

As mentioned above, Rodan + Fields REVERSE Skin Lightening Treatment has hydroquinone as its active ingredient. This ingredient is recognized as potent, however, it requires a dose of 4% concentration to be effective. Many manufacturers will keep the dose lower at 2% in order to be able to sell it without a prescription. This is the case here.

Because of this, it is written explicitly on the manufacturer's website that application of this product may not be noticeable when applied to very dark skin.

In addition, we were disappointed to see that the ingredient list included parabens and artificial fragrances. As more research emerges regarding potentially harmful ingredients contained in cosmetics, more manufacturers are changing their products to remove these compounds.

Yet, because Rodan + Fields have cleverly marketed their products by following the independent sales method of Avon and Mary Kay cosmetics. By allowing anyone to become a consultant and sell their products, their brand becomes a household name that people trust. In this way, they have been able to extend the reach of their skincare line to many people.

So, we went looking to see what consumers had to say, and it seems that customers had good experiences using this formulation. Saying that, we found several reviews which found their products to be irritating to the skin or ineffective.

Some other elements of this product also were not so straightforward. The manufacturer stated that it undergoes third party clinical testing and follows FDA guidelines but there is no mention of an FDA or cGMP approved facility on its website.

Rodan + Fields REVERSE Skin Lightening Treatment might have a little better luck with effectiveness if it made the potency just a little stronger and avoided including parabens and artificial fragrances in its product. This product was almost there, but not quite.

Is Rodan + Fields REVERSE Skin Lightening Treatment Safe?

As long as the manufacturer's instructions are followed, this seems to be safe to use in the short term. Concerns are due to hydroquinone, parabens and artificial fragrances.

Due to the hydroquinone present, this product can only be used for 3 months at a time, with a 3 month break required in between each treatment. Also, because of the hydroquinone, this product should not be used on children less than 12 years old and it cannot be sold outside of the US.

Parabens and artificial fragrances also have the potential to cause real damage. Most cosmetic companies and skincare manufacturers are changing their formulas in order to eliminate parabens and artificial fragrances.
