Ebanel has created a Retinol formulation that sounds impressive and tempting, with a potent 2.5% Retinol, Vitamins B5, C and E as well as Resveratrol, there are some intriguing ingredients in this moisturizer that really grab our attention. This manufacturer claims that it is targeted specifically for people who suffer from loss of firmness and elasticity or uneven texture as well as the appearance of wrinkles, which raises a number of issues for us. Firstly with regards to the ingredients, we think that 2.5% Retinol is too high for sensitive facial skin. A high percentage of Retinol is likely to cause an increased sensitivity to sunlight and cause the skin to peel and dry up. We don’t believe that a Retinol face moisturizer should contain a percentage higher than 1%.

While we appreciate the addition of Vitamins B5, C and E as well as Resveratrol, we’re left wondering why the manufacturer didn’t use other clinically proven ingredients that work synergistically with Retinol, such as soluble Collagen. When searching through the ingredients in this formula, we were impressed to see that Hyaluronic acid is included in the formula in the more absorbable version, Sodium Hyaluronate (similar to our first pick). However, we were slightly confused why the manufacturer wouldn't put an emphasis on this, unless for some reason, it's a lower percentage standardization. This is a potent ingredient that is certainly worth a mention as it works harmoniously with Retinol, boosting moisturization. Additionally, we disagree with their policy that you should wait until you have wrinkles in order to use a Retinol cream. We believe that the sooner you start using a Retinol cream, the higher your chances are of delaying the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles.

Another issue we had with this product is that the manufacturer claims that it doesn’t include any parabens or fragrances, but when reading the ingredients, ‘fragrance’ is clearly listed. This discovery makes us question whether the manufacturer relies on the idea that customers will just believe what they see and not read the fine print.

Is Ebanel Retinol Moisturizer Effective?

We found a number of mixed reviews online. Some confirmed that this product works and they’re super satisfied with the results, however we found other reviews that claimed that the product they received was not what was advertised. We’re not sure if the manufacturer has redone their formula, or is sending out a different product than what they claim. Either way, this has caused much confusion among the consumers and unfortunately without a satisfaction guarantee to back up the product, the consumers are stuck with having spent their well-earned money on a product they didn’t necessarily want. We were happy to see that this product is cGMP certified which means their ingredients should be good quality, we’re just not sure that the ingredients they’re listing on their site is exactly what you get in the bottle.

Is Ebanel Retinol Moisturizer Safe?

We feel that Retinol at 2.5% is bordering unsafe and may cause peeling, redness and damage to the skin. If not applied with a sunscreen of at least 40 SPF, you may cause permanent damage. Aside from this, the other ingredients appear to be safe, and are cGMP certified.

Summary

We always appreciate a company that thinks out of the box, and we can tell that Ebanel Retinol Moisturizer does just that, by using ingredients such as Resveratrol and Aloe Vera. However, having said that, nothing beats science, so we will always prefer a formula that uses ingredients that have been clinically researched and are more likely to be effective based on scientific research. This formula does include some of these, such as Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid, but the standardization that they use for the Retinol is significantly strong at 2.5% and there is no mention of the standardization of the Hyaluronic Acid. More is not always better, as in this case. Another disappointment is that there is no mention of a satisfaction guarantee, a motion that would at least instill confidence within consumers that they have financial security when purchasing this product. Considering that customers have complained that the product they receive is not what was advertised, we would recommend looking for a money-back guarantee to be sure to avoid disappointment. For these reasons, we decided not to rate this product any higher than third.
