Smashbox O-Plump

This lip plumper has a cool name and has a sleek look to it, targeted to a young audience or those trying to regain a youthful appearance. The formula contains one trademarked ingredient and a comprehensive blend of oils and extracts and no parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, phthalates, artificial fragrances or talc. So, it seems that it should be effective. However, it also contains eleven other ingredients that we are not sure about, some are synthetically derived and may not be as effective as clinically tested ingredients.

We were impressed to see that this product does not test on animals and does not contain parabens. We were, however, slightly disappointed to hear that this product does contain an artificial color and synthetically derived ingredients, as they can be irritating to sensitive lips. Our own tests showed that it is a fairly good product, but we all know that beauty products don’t always work the same way for everyone.

There are many positive consumer reviews posted on its website, which is to be expected. Unfortunately, on other retailer sites, we mostly found mixed reviews. Consumers were not always happy with how the product felt on their lips. These reviews left us with some questions as to the overall effectiveness of this product.

Is Smashbox O-Plump Safe?

We found some ingredients in this product that we were not sure about since is not clear from its website exactly what concentration they have. For example, it contains copolymers which are considered safe for use in cosmetic formulations in minute amounts. However, according to our research, the color that is used may cause organ system toxicity. In the United States, with the exception of one class of hair dyes, all color additives for cosmetics must be specifically pre-approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). On Smashbox O-Plump's website, it is not indicated that it has FDA approval or that it is GMP certified, like our #1 choice. Additionally, this product is intended to react with your own personal chemistry to turn your lips a shade of pink. A cool idea but we are not sure if the ingredients that cause your lips to turn pink are entirely safe. Perhaps they may cause allergies or side effects in others.

Summary

Smashbox O-Plump looks like an effective product which combines natural oils and extracts with synthetically derived ingredients. It is reasonably priced, however, it only has one trademarked ingredient and many inactive ingredients. Because of this it falls slightly short of our #1 product.
