With only 4 mg per daily serving, it’s difficult to discern whether this product is effective or not. It is far below what we consider to be an ideal amount. However, the company uses the certified AstaReal^® Astaxanthin which is considered to be high quality. AstaReal^® boasts over 70 human clinical studies and uses photobioreactors to cultivate the Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae for optimal concentration of Astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is the sole ingredient in this product, however it is combined with Olive oil to enhance absorption seeing as Astaxanthin is fat-soluble, it absorbs better with a fat such as Olive oil. This was all impressive and what led us to picking this product as our second choice.

However, it remains in the second position due to a number of reasons. Firstly, we cannot get over the minimalistic amount offered in a daily serving. 4 mg is a huge reduction from the optimal dosage of 12 mg. Seeing as Astaxanthin is the only ingredient in this product, it is lacking key complementing antioxidants such as Zinc and Vitamin E that would notably enhance the antioxidant effect of Astaxanthin. And although it is combined with Olive oil for better absorption, we would have liked to see the addition of a thermogenic bioavailability enhancer such as BioPerine^® that would give it a bit of an added edge and better absorption. Another disappointment is that this product is not vegan-friendly, like our first choice product. We understand that most Astaxanthin products are served in a gelatin capsule and so do not fall under a vegan-friendly category, as we have found, it is possible to find other ways and would have appreciated the company making that extra effort to please a wider range of consumers.

Bottom Line: We’re not sure if NutriGold Astaxanthin Gold is effective due to the mixed reviews we found online. We were pleased that there is a money-back guarantee; however, it is only for 60 days. This is better than some, and certainly a gesture we appreciate, but it does not compare to a full year guarantee we have found on other products.
