To determine whether a supplement is effective, it’s important to look at the formula and see if it has the right ingredients and dosages to be effective. For starters, let’s compare this formula to our checklist for what kinds of ingredients are needed. First: B Vitamins. We were pleased to see that it contains all of the B Vitamins, but wish it contained a bit less Niacin (more on that in the “is it safe” section below). These vitamins support energy levels, nerve health, and assist bodily functions that may be impaired by adrenal stress, such as hormone production and cell creation. Second: Adaptogens. This formula contains Eleuthero Root which was also in our top pick and helps balance the hormone levels as well as the adrenal’s stress response. Biomatrix also lists Choline, Inositol, Zinc, Copper, PABA, and Rosemary extract under the category of adaptogens. These are not typically recognized as adaptogens, the term being applied to herbs, but the fatigue-fighting, stress-recovering effects seem to be similar. Third: Vitamin C and Bioflavonoids. This formula has Vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant that is also necessary for adrenal function as well as Citrus Bioflavonoids that provide antioxidants which can protect cells throughout the body. Based on these qualifications, we do expect that Biomatrix Support Adrenals will be effective to some degree.

After perusing the formula, it’s also good to take a look at customer reviews to see how the formula plays out in the real world. While the product does seem to satisfy the majority of customers, there are some reviews that reported side effects such as Niacin flush.

Is Biomatrix Support Adrenals Safe?

This product has no known allergens, though the high dosage of Niacin may cause Niacin Flush, in sensitive individuals. To their credit, Biomatrix acknowledges this on their product page and suggests that people with a Niacin sensitivity space out the dosing more and take the capsules with food. Additionally, this product contains DHEA and Pregnenolone which are trace steroidal hormones. It does make sense for a supplement that supports the adrenals which are part of the endocrine system to have the precursors to hormones, but the issue with this is that the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibit the use of DHEA. Although the dosage is small (8mg), this supplement is probably best avoided by professional or college level athletes. Additionally, since Pregnenolone is a precursor to estrogen, it should not be taken by people with a condition that is exacerbated by estrogen. Therefore, we suggest you always check with your healthcare professional before taking this supplement.
